Settled in the 19th century as the western end of the transcontinental railroad, and home to one of the city's densest concentrations of Victorians, Italianate and Queen Anne among them, mixed with warehouses and light industry. Seventh Street was a well-known jazz corridor, and the area is changing quickly now, with lofts, new construction, its own BART station, and quick access to Downtown and the Bay Bridge.
